Crocodile Clips
We found this great program called 'Crocodile Clips', which is ideal for teaching and learning about electric circuits! It's suitable for students in grades 6 through 9. (I played with it for about an hour. It's very addictive! We've used it for several years in Science 9 classes, with success.)

Here's what the program lets you do:
  • Play with different circuits. Make lights go on, motors turn, and variable resistors control the current flow. Blow a fuse. Everything works!
  • Answer questions about what these circuits do, including parallel and series ones.
  • Design your own circuit. Label it. Print it out.
  • Take a test on circuits.
The program is free, and the author encourages its distribution and use in classrooms, so we thought we'd make it available to you here.
It's a 1.1 MB (zipped) file, so it may take a few minutes to download. After unzipping the program (called 'elem.exe'), double-click on it to run the setup program ... it's all straightforward from there!
