These pages will lead you through the transformations called reflections, rotations, translations, and dilatations, and are designed to complement the Grade 9 Alberta curriculum. They include interactive graphs that allow you to see the effect of each transformation, and experiment with different initial conditions. Each of the first three sections includes ideas to think about, self-checking exercises, a fun activity, and a quiz. Quiz answers may be printed, or emailed to us for marking. There is also a test based on all four topics.
You can begin with any of the four sections, but pages within each section should be completed in order. Before beginning, see the information page to find out how the interactive graphs work, and what you'll need to know to answer the questions.

Reflections
  1. Introduction to Reflections
  2. Reflections in the Y Axis
  3. Reflections in the X Axis
  4. Reflections in the Line Y=X
  5. Reflections of Polygons
  6. Reflections Fun
  7. Reflections QUIZ
Rotations
  1. Introduction to Rotations
  2. Rotation 90° counterclockwise
  3. Rotation 90° clockwise
  4. Rotation of 180°
  5. Rotating a Polygon
  6. Rotations Fun
  7. Rotations QUIZ
Translations
  1. Introduction to Translations
  2. Information About Vectors
  3. Translating Graph Points I
  4. Translating Graph Points II
  5. Translating Polygons
  6. Translations Fun
  7. Translations QUIZ
Dilatations

Our special Dilatations section explains how
geometric shapes can be enlarged or reduced.
This section has no quiz.

When you are all done, try a  TEST  based on all four transformations. Your test answers can be printed out for your teacher to mark, or they can be emailed to us for marking, and we'll let you know how you did, hopefully within 24 hours.
