A vector is a quantity which has both size and direction.
For example:
- 25 km West
- 180 Newtons up
- 90 km/h right
- 35 m at an angle of 17 degrees from horizontal
A vector can be represented by an arrow.
The length of the arrow shows the size of the vector.
The angle of the arrowshows the vector's direction.
When two vectors are added, the vector sum can be shown as a picture, in one of two ways:
Vectors can be added several ways. 'Adding the vectors' means showing the sum vector, and finding its size and direction.
